Jack Carson, Carson Design Associates
Jack Carson is principal of Carson Design Associates, a firm he founded in 1991 after ten years of working for other design firms. With a LEED accreditation and a bachelor of fine arts in interior environmental design, he brings a wide perspective to the firm’s projects in architecture, interior design, and facility management. Mr. Carson continues to leverage new technologies and delivery systems to the building industry. He has ongoing project involvement with large corporate clients such as Accenture, Charles Schwab, and Allstate Insurance.
Ricardo A. Solis, AIA, Carson Design Associates
Ric Solis is an architect with Carson Design Associates and has more than nine years of experience working on a multitude of project types. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Texas Society of Architects and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Working under the tutelage of Larry Speck at Page Southerland Page, Mr. Solis was involved in many award-winning projects such as the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Austin Convention Center Expansion, and Austin City Lofts.
Gayle Borst, Stewardship, Inc.
Gayle Borst is founder of Stewardship, Inc., an architectural firm dedicated to sustainable design. Its staff is comprised of LEED™ (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) accredited professionals experienced in residential and commercial sustainable design and consulting.
With a B.S. in biology and a Master of Architecture specialization in energy-efficient design, Ms. Borst has sought to bring a deeper level of sustainability to all of the firm’s projects. She served as an advisor to the City of Austin's Green Building Program during its early stages of development and was project architect for the Green Habitat Learning Project, Austin's first affordable, sustainable home and a joint venture between the Green Building Program, Habitat for Humanity, and Casa Verde Builders. She has continued working with Casa Verde Builders, a youthbuild group that has constructed over 30 such homes in Austin.
Dedicated to spreading the word on sustainable building, Ms. Borst co-founded the Sustainable Building Coalition in 1992, was a founding member of the Straw Bale Association of Texas, and has served on various City of Austin task forces for sustainable building and development and energy efficiency. Over the past 14 years she has been active as a sustainable building educator through radio, TV, and print and as a speaker at various conferences, including The Renewable Energy Roundup and the Central Texas Green Building Conference. Among her passions are site-responsive design, natural building and affordable sustainable housing.
Susan Barnett, Stewardship, Inc.
Sue Barnett, as a former commercial building coordinator for the City of Austin's international award-winning Green Building Program, brings to Stewardship, Inc. extensive knowledge of sustainable materials, systems, and concepts. She also worked for years on endangered species protection programs and environmental education programs for several environmental protection organizations.
Ms. Barnett helped form the U.S. Green Building Council, participated in the writing of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, and is on the LEED faculty. She was the team leader for American Standards and Testing Methods (ASTM) Committee for Commercial Green Building standard and gave input on National Institute of Standards' (NIST) Building for Environmental and Economic Sustainability (BEES), and several federal government sustainable design initiatives. She has assisted several cities and countries in beginning their own Green Building programs and continues to lecture on Green Building principles as well as program experiences. She has consulted on many of the area's largest sustainable projects.
William McCurley, P.E., Eclipse Environmental & Engineering
William McCurely is the vice president of Eclipse Environmental & Engineering Inc. He has over 30 years of experience in conducting civil and environmental engineering projects in 20 countries covering Asia, Europe, and North America. In addition to being a Registered Professional Engineer, he is certified by the TCEQ as a Corrective Action Project Manager (CAPM) for the investigation and remediation of soil and groudwater contamination.
Mr. McCurley has extensive experience in: environmental, health and safety compliance; permitting; civil engineering and site development design; soil and groundwater investigation; remedial investigations and corrective actions (design and construction); environmental assessment; regulatory support and permitting compliance auditing; air emission controls and permitting; and environmental health and safety management systems. Mr. McCurley served as president of the Texas Hazardous Waste Management Society and the national Hazardous Waste Federation. He has published more than 1200 pages in various engineering and technical journals and other national publications. Mr. McCurley has degrees in chemistry (B.S., Univ. of S. Fla.) and in civil/environmental engineering (M.S., Fla. Technological Univ.)
Jason Devaney, Eclipse Environmental & Engineering
Jason Devaney is a principal of Eclipse Environmental & Engineering, Inc. He has worked on various commercial and industrial development and infrastructure projects. He served as lead environmental coordinator for site selection and site improvement projects such as the Temple-Inland Financial – Corporate Headquarters Facility expansion in Austin, Texas; the Oasis Substation Development Project for CenterPoint Energy in Alvin, Texas; the FM 812 Landfill Erosion Control (Stream Bank Stabilization) Project in Austin, Texas; and the wastewater interceptor alignment for the Higher Education Center in Round Rock, Texas. Mr. Devaney has also been involved with several site development projects serving as the code compliance specialist to ensure the site permit applications and plans are in accordance with local municipal and state codes, ordinances, and regulations. In each of these projects Mr. Devaney has inspected the sites for wetlands, endangered species habitat, and other sensitive environmental features. He received a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University and completed graduate course work in Natural Resource Development.
Supalak (Sue) Rogers, P.G., Eclipse Environmental
Sue Rogers, president of Eclipse Environmental & Engineering Inc., has over 15 years of experience in conducting environmental assessment, corrective action, and permitting projects in Texas. Mrs. Rogers is a Texas Registered Professional Geologist. She has extensive experience in environmental; permitting; soil and ground water investigation; remedial investigations and corrective actions; environmental assessment; regulatory support and permitting compliance auditing; and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules such as the Texas Risk Reduction Program (TRRP), Petroleum Storage Tank (PST), Dry Cleaners Program, and Superfund Program.
She received an M.S. in geosciences from Lousiana State University and a B.S. in geology from Chiengmai University in Thailand.
Richard A. Martin, PE
Structural engineer Richard Martin has worked on a multitude of projects in Austin, including intricate analysis and detailing on the atrium of the Austin Convention Center Expansion, non-conventional tilt concrete at Pickle/St. John’s Community Center, economical and dramatic concrete framing at the Austin City Lofts, environmentally-focused visitor centers, and design-driven private residences.
As a founding member and associate principal at Architectural Engineers Collaborative, Mr. Martin has led the engineering staff and helped set the direction of the entire practice.
Carolyn Kelley, ASLA
Landscape architect Carolyn Kelley specializes in sustainable landscape design, using native and naturalized plants. Among her projects are the new Austin City Hall and public plaza; Remembrance Gardens at Riverbend Church; Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd; the Computer Science Corporation two-block streetscape development in downtown Austin; the Zilker Botanical Garden Butterfly Garden Trail; additions to the Zilker Rose Garden and Trail; the Master Plan and Phantom Ship at the Zilker Playscape.
Ms. Kelley was production coordinator for the Town Lake Corridor Study and project coordinator for the award-winning Town Lake Comprehensive Plan. In addition to countless residences, she has designed public landscapes throughout Central Texas, with clients including the City of Austin, AISD, Del Valle Independent School District, Hays Consolidated Independent School District, Seton Hospital, and Scott & White.
